Experimentelle Untersuchungen an neuge-borenen Meerschweinchen mit BCG-Schutzimpfung per os

, : Experimentelle Untersuchungen an neuge-borenen Meerschweinchen mit BCG-Schutzimpfung per os. Zeitschr Tuherk 57(5): 312-326

Oral vaccination of guinea pigs with BCG (3.75-15 mg.) within the first days after birth gave the following results: They developed as well as non-treated animals. After 1-2 months 25-55% produced for a short time a weak reaction with Koch's old tuberculin. Within a few days after vaccination tissues were involved by tubercle bacilli, which were found in the cervical and mesenteric lymph nodes and liver at different times after vaccination. In some cases, slight histological changes could be demonstrated, principally in the mesenteric lymph nodes and lungs, but in no case could characteristic tuberculous lesions be observed. Effective immunity against subcutaneous injection with small doses of virulent bacilli probably was not established. Some of the vaccinated guinea pigs lived longer after infection (1-2 months) than controls, and sometimes even increased in weight. Vaccinated and subsequently infected guinea pigs on some cases showed tuberculous lesions of distinct fibroid character. No regularity in results could be observed, obviously due to accidental circumstances accompanying the immune reactions.
