Horizontal and upward intensity of light in Puget Sound waters

, : Horizontal and upward intensity of light in Puget Sound waters. Publ Puget Sound Biol Sta 7(1): 129-135

Photoelectric cells were arranged so as to receive only light diffused horizontally or vertically upward and were lowered to a depth of 6 m. The light intensity decreased at a constant rate per unit distance the direct light traveled through the water, the rate being about 3 times as great in the horizontal as in the vertical direction. The magnitude of the light intensity was greatest at noon and was decreased by a rough surface; the rate of decrease was increased by foreign material in the water.
