Importance of residual periodontal membrane in healing of extraction wounds

, : Importance of residual periodontal membrane in healing of extraction wounds. Fogorvosi Szeinle 54(6): 177-181

On 84 teeth extracted because of pulpitis, 15-20% of the periodontal membrane was found attached to the extracted tooth; in 20 teeth with pulp gangrene, the amount of the attached periodontal membrane was between 25 and 30%. In periodontitis and periostitis the portion of attached periodontal membrane amounts to 45-50%, and to 60% in periodontosis. Measurements were made on extracted teeth, after fixation and staining of residual periodontal membrane, and evaluated planimetrically.
