Influence of sex hormones on the extraparathyroid mobilization of calcium and phosphorus

, : Influence of sex hormones on the extraparathyroid mobilization of calcium and phosphorus. Rev Soc Argentina Biol 38(1/4): 70-75

Peritoneal dialysis was performed in nofroparathyroidectomized rats in order to study rate of movilization of calcium and phosphorus. Concentration of calcium and phosphorus in the washing solution, which expresses the amount of these ions that have been dialyzed, was constant during the four hours that the experiment last. There was no sexual difference and castration reduced calcium concentration in female but not in male. Testosterone propionate (100 [mu]g/5 days) diminished significantly the calcium concentration in washing liquid in normal male and female, and in spayed female it increased. Estradiol benzoate (10 [mu]g/5 days) increased calcium concentration in washing liquid in spayed female, and decreased significantly concentration of phosphorus in normal and spayed females.
