Intensity of water absorption in the small intestine of dogs exposed to various degrees of overheating

, : Intensity of water absorption in the small intestine of dogs exposed to various degrees of overheating. Fiziol Zhur Sssr [Transl] 46(12): 1739-1745

High surrounding temperature depressed water absorption in the small intestine of dogs. The extent to which the absorptive function of the small intestine was disturbed depended on the extent to which the animals were overheated. There was a certain parallelism between the increasing inspissation of the blood and the depression of water absorption. When animals were considerably overheated, there was reduction in the tone and increase of the volume of the isolated loop of small intestine. Despite this change in the volume of the intestinal loop, the rate of water absorption was less than before overheating.
