Intrathoracic palliative anastomosis in the irremovable malignant neoplasms of the esophagus and cardia of the stomach

, : Intrathoracic palliative anastomosis in the irremovable malignant neoplasms of the esophagus and cardia of the stomach. Acta Med Et Biol [japan] 4(2): 151-160

Various surgical procedures available for the treatment of human patients with carcinoma of the esophagus and/or cardia are discussed and the techniques illustrated. Data are presented on the survival rates of patients undergoing some of these procedures. Though these procedures are only palliative, they do serve to improve the severe dysphagia which is a common persistent complaint preoperatively. Palliative anastomoses in certain cases serve to eliminate obstructions and lessen the danger of infection and perforation of the tumor.
