Intravenous injections of streptosaluizid for the treatment of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis

, : Intravenous injections of streptosaluizid for the treatment of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Probl Tuberk 44(11): 20-25

Intravenous injection of streptosaluizid at 1-2 g in a 3% solution of para-aminosalicylic acid [PAS] or 5% glucose in drops every 2 hr. daily is an effective way to treat patients with lung tuberculosis. At a dose of 1 g streptosaluizid is easily tolerated when given intravenously, even by patients having intolerance to antibacterial drugs administered by the usual methods. When the dose is increased to 2g in some of the patients, easily eliminated signs of intolerance are noted. When streptosaluizid is injected intravenously at 2g in a 3% solution of PAS, a high bacteriostatic level of the preparations is created in blood (in dilutions of the blood from 1:1024 to 1:32) for the 24 hr. following injection. When streptosaluizid is administered by drops in 2-hr, intervals, at the end of the administration of the drops there is a concentration of streptomycin ranging from 40 to 80 micrograms/ ml., dropping to 5-10 micrograms/ml. after 8 hr.
