Low-molecular-weight dextran and side-effects of Adipiodon

, : Low-molecular-weight dextran and side-effects of Adipiodon. Ann Med Internae Fenn 52(3): 205-210

Rheomacrodex infusion was tried in order to improve the diagnostic results and to eliminate the side-effects of Adipiodon. Infusion of 500 ml of Rheomacrodex before an injection of 40 cc Adipiodon 50% did not decrease the side-effects of the agent or improve its excretion through the liver. Deterioration of cardiac insufficiency was observed in one case. In spite of the disappointing results and in view of the known cause of the side-effects, roll-formation of the red blood-cells and the subsequent rise of the pulmonary pressure, animal experiments are planned in order to search for a substance more effectively affecting the roll-formation.
