Microcytemia, constitutional microcytic anemia, and Cooley's anemia

, : Microcytemia, constitutional microcytic anemia, and Cooley's anemia. American Journal of Human Genetics 1(1): 83-93

Hereditary microcytemia is characterized by an increased red cell count, hypochromia, microcytosis, decreased fragility, some variability in cell size and shape, and presence of "target" cells. Ordinarily health is not impaired but in some cases there is a microcytic anemia. Genetic analysis shows that this condition is due to the heterozygous state of a single factor which, when homozygous results in Cooley's anemia.
