Morphogenetic analysis of the development of imaginal organs of insects?

, : Morphogenetic analysis of the development of imaginal organs of insects?. Ent Obozrenie 35(3): 503-509

Experiments on the removal of imaginal buds (IB), together with the adjacent hypodermis on different stages at the onset of the imaginal organ differentiation, in Galleria mellonella and Melasoma saliceti, showed that there are embryonal and regenerative gradient fields around the IB which, during the removal of the buds, help in one or another degree to restore the wing or extremity, not only on the surface of the body, but also during implantation of such parts in the cavity of the body. With the formation of wing IB, migrations of cells occur from the dorsal side to the ventral. In later stages, the development of imaginal organs becomes possible only with the establishment of contact with other organs. Thus, dismemberment of the extremity becomes possible only with contact of the hypodermis of the imaginal bud with the myoblasts. The directing role in this process is limited to the hypodermis.
