New method of coloration of nerve cell bodies and axons in the central and peripheral nervous system by use of a single coloring agent

, : New method of coloration of nerve cell bodies and axons in the central and peripheral nervous system by use of a single coloring agent. Arch Sci Biol 49(1): 72-82

A new, simple method for simultaneous staining of nerve cell bodies and axons in the peripheral and central nervous system by means of a single stain is proposed. Material is fixed in a mercuric chloride-acetic-trichloracetic fluid and stained with cresyl violet or Giemsa solution. The best results are obtained in the spinal cord, medulla and pons, and in spinal and cranial nerves and related ganglia. The method gives good preparations for topographical studies in normal or degenerating (wallerian) material.
