NEW vehicles for prolonged penicillin administration

, : NEW vehicles for prolonged penicillin administration. American Professional Pharmacist 14(4): 331-331

Procaine-penicillin-G in oil gives superior blood levels for longer periods of time. The admin. of procaine-penicillin-G crystalline in oil is accomplished by intramusc. injn. without the side reactions customary with oil and wax as a vehicle. This new salt can be adm. in different vehicles, such as oil, oil and water emulsions or physiological saline. Another procaine-penicillin product with a different vehicle has also been announced. This product contains 300,000 U./ml. of procaine-penicillin-G in a vehicle composed of 98% peanut oil and 2% Al monostearate. This forms a thixotropic mixture, thus assuring an even dosage.
