Notes on the bacteria belonging to the Rhodobacteriineae Breed Murray and Hitchens and the Chlamydobacterlaies Buchanan occurring at Macquarie Island

, : Notes on the bacteria belonging to the Rhodobacteriineae Breed Murray and Hitchens and the Chlamydobacterlaies Buchanan occurring at Macquarie Island. Proc Linn Soc N S Wales2: 63-64

The presence of purple photosynthetic bacteria, including, possibly, the genus Rhodopseudomonas Kluyver and van Niel, is recorded in subantarctic soil. Filamentous S bacteria of the genus Thiothrix Winogradsky were found in both fresh water and sea water at Macquarie Island, and Crenothrix Cohn in deposits of Fe hydroxides on the surface of wet soils and in streams.
