Occurrence of Fusarium wilt in a market-garden crop of radishes

, : Occurrence of Fusarium wilt in a market-garden crop of radishes. Plant Pis Reporter 33(1): 9

This disease was observed in a planting of Early Scarlet radish on peat soil in the Castroville District of Monterey County, California. It is the 1st time the disease has been seen in a crop grown for roots and apparently the 2d time it has been recognized. Some of the roots reached marketable size and externally appeared healthy although yellowing and wilting occurred in the leaves, but upon cutting snowed vascular discoloration. Other plants failed to develop storage roots and were deeply discolored internally, some plants died in the row. Fusarium oxvsporum f. raphani was readily isolated from discolored vascular tissue. Artificial inoculations in the greenhouse gave typical wilt symptoms in about 3 wks.
