, : On the polychro-matism and albinism of the Siberian squirrels. Proc Zool Soc London (2): 493-495

The author calls attention to 3 variable ecological morphs of Sciurus vulgaris: nigricauda* in forests of Pinus cembra; brunneicauda* in forests of Abies sibirica, Pwea obovata, and Larix sibirica; and ruficauda in forests of Pinus sylvestris. The darker and damper the forests, the darker the squirrels; the lighter and drier the forests, the lighter the squirrels. The occurrence of general, partial, and complete albinism in these squirrels is discussed.
