Production of radioactive myxin

, : Production of radioactive myxin. Canadian Journal of Microbiology 13(9): 1251-1257

Uniformly labeled glucose-C14 of a high specific activity was supplied to growing cells of a species of Sorangium (strain 3C) under specified conditions. The [antibacterial] antibiotic myxin that was synthesized by the cells contained about 10% of the C14 supplied. Because of its specific activity, the purified antibiotic could be used at low concentrations in experiments designed to investigate the site and mechanism of action of this compound with susceptible cells.
