Progress report on studies of striped bass reproduction in relation to the central valley project

, : Progress report on studies of striped bass reproduction in relation to the central valley project. Calif Fish And Game 34(4): 171-188

Eggs and fry of striped bass (Roccus saxatilis) were collected during 1947 in the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers to determine the possible effects that diversion of water from these rivers will have on the bass population. It is impossible to predict the magnitude of losses to be expected because of the many unknown factors involved. Even if the losses are large, they will probably be relatively small in relation to the total numbers of fry present on the nursery grounds, and should not bring any disastrous reduction in the striped bass population.
