Proof of thermotolerant Klebsiella by filter membrane

, : Proof of thermotolerant Klebsiella by filter membrane. Arch Inst Pasteur Madagascar 27: 33

For 1,130 samples of water submitted for analysis in 1958 the presence of colonies which were TTC- and lactose + has been observed on mem-branes incubated for 44 hrs. at 44oC in 273 cases. In 263 cases there were colonies of Escherichia coli. In the 10 remaining cases the IMVIC test has demonstrated that they are Klebsiella having the follow-ing characteristics: indole -, RM-, acetone+, citrate+. These Klebsiella coexist with: (1) coliforms in 10 cases out of 10; (2) with Streptococcus faecalis in 7 cases out of 10; (3) with Clostridium sulfite reducers in 6 cases out of 10, of which in 4 cases streptococci and clostridia are found together. These figures are approximately the same as the percentages of coexistence of tests of fecal contamination found for water containing E. coli. This analogy would favor the fecal origin of these thermotolerant Klebsiella.
