Recherches morphologjques et svstemati-ques sur les cafeiers du Congo

, : Recherches morphologjques et svstemati-ques sur les cafeiers du Congo. Inst Roy Colon Beige Sect Sci Nat Et Med Mem 8[Degree] 11(3): 1-183

The first part of the work consists in a cytological study (1) The cariology of coffee trees shows that the nucleus belongs to the euchromo-centrical type (Gregoire 1932); (2) the chromosome number is 22, confirming former works and corresponding to the fundamental diploid number of the Rubiaceae; (3) the chromosomal char- acters of different spp. are similar and no category can be established in a sp. as type choice; (4) general tetraploidy is not confirmed among some vars. of Coffea arabica. but is among a few other spp., as C. stenophylla. After a long descr. of the general morph. of the coffee group, special morph. and system-atics of all the coffee trees growing in Belgian Congo are treated with descr., variability and distr. of the following genera and spp.: ARGOCOFFEA stat nov. (Coffea. sect. Argocoffea) has n. combs. A. iasminoides (C. i.t C. i. var. trillesiana), A. rupestris (C. r. C. divaricata. C. thonneri); ARGOCOFFEOPSIS n. gen. has n. combs. A. scandens (C. s) and A. subcordata (C. s. = C. claessen-sii); CALYCOSnHONIA stat. nov. (Coffea. sect. Calvcosiphonia) has n. comb. C. spathicalvx (C. s.); Coffea eugenioides (= C. nan-diensis. C. becauetii). C. kivuensisf C. congensis (= C. congensis vars. chalotii. froehneri and subsessilis). C. congensis var. mi-crantha n. var., C. arabica, C. canephora (= C. canephora vars. erassifolia, kouilouensis, pankwuensis and wildemanii, C. laur-entii, C. robusta). C. brevipes, C. liberica (= C. dewevrei, CL_ arnoldiana, C. aruwimiensis, C. royauxii).
