Remote observations on persons subjected to the effect of radiation

, : Remote observations on persons subjected to the effect of radiation. Med Radiol 7(1): 10-16

The results of the examination of 218 persons at different periods (up to 10 years) following irradiation for malignant diseases or for preventive purposes after the removal of tumors is given. In remote periods the condition of these persons is characterized by satisfactory compensation. Nonetheless, a meticulous investigation of the physiological functions discloses considerable changes with functional disorders of various systems. Of particular importance are functional disturbances of nervous activity (disorders of vegetative-vascular and endocrine regulation, asthenovegetative syndrome, cere-broasthenic disorders, disturbances of the electrophysiological activity of the cerebral cortex, changes in the activity of the olfactory and gustatory analyzers, altered thermoregulation of the skin). Five-10 years after the radiation there was, in some patients, along with functional disturbances, the formation of microsymptoms of organic affection of the nervous system.
