Repercussions of venous stasis and of thrombotic phenomena on arteriovenous anastomosis 2nd European Conference on Microcirculation, Pavia, Italy, 1962

, : Repercussions of venous stasis and of thrombotic phenomena on arteriovenous anastomosis 2nd European Conference on Microcirculation, Pavia, Italy, 1962. Bibl Anat 4: 719-731

The behaviour of arteriovenous shunts in rabbit ears was examined in various experimental conditions and in particular during stasis obtained by compressing the marginal vein. Histological changes of the arterioles, venules and arteriovenous shunts of rabbit ears observed several hours and several days after ligation of the marginal vein were also studied. Parietal changes observed are represented by modifications of the endothelium, the subendothelial elastic and connective tissues in the arterioles and varying degrees of degeneration of the myo-epithelial layers of the intermediate anastomotic segments. These histological changes are very probably responsible for the functional circulatory disorders and the inversion of the blood stream observed in vivo. The changes observed on the arteriovenous segments were comparable to those found in human pathology in certain types of glomic disease: they are briefly discussed.
