Retinal Hole In A Case Of Choroidal Melanoma

, : Retinal Hole In A Case Of Choroidal Melanoma. Archives of Ophthalmology 73: 666-668

It is evident that the retinal hole in the present case does not belong to the 5% of retinal breaks without retinal detachment which are found in "normal" eyes at autopsy. Actually, the retinal hole in this case consists of a break in the wall of the large degenerative retinal cyst due to the infiltrating tumor. It is presumed that identical retinal tears may be responsible for some of the erroneously performed retinal detachment operations in cases of choroidal melanoma simulating idiopathic serous detachment.
