Seasonal fluctuations in the protein content of the blood of healthy children of an early age

, : Seasonal fluctuations in the protein content of the blood of healthy children of an early age. Tr Nauch Issled Okhr Materin Detstva Azerb Ssr 5: 203-209

In 74 children observed from the age of 6 mo. to 4 yr. the average content of general protein was the same 6.89 g % up to the age of 2 yr., and 7.02 g % from 2 to 2 1/2 yr. In older children protein content and protein fractions corresponded to those in the blood of adults. A higher plasma protein level was present in the summer months. The seasonal difference was on the average 1.14 g %. A rise in the concentration of plasma proteins occurred at the expense of slightly dispersed B albumins; the globulin content in the plasma hardly changed either quantitatively or qualitatively. Correspondingly the coefficient of albumins to globulin in the plasma in the summer months rose from 1.8 to 2.2. It is suggested that the rise in the synthesis of proteins during the summer months is related to the more favorable conditions for the children's diet, and also to more intensive ultraviolet exposure in the 12 children. There was a reaction of the reticuloendothelial system to the disruption of the water balance produced by a breakdown in the liver function.
