Some systematic errors in strip surveying and means of obtaining more accurate results

, : Some systematic errors in strip surveying and means of obtaining more accurate results. Skogsvardsfor Tidskr 24(5/6): 284-296

In the Swedish national forest survey, using a strip 10 m. wide, it was found that there was a tendency to vary the width of strip measured, depending on the size of the timber. Since border line trees, especially of small dimensions, were avoided, the volume was underestimated by 3.8%. Greater accuracy could be obtained by using 2 caliper men, one on each side of the chain, with light bamboo poles for checking the width of the strip.
