The authors undertook to determine the usefulness of the electroencephalogram (E. E. G.) in deciding whether soldiers with acute neurotic symptoms should be discharged. 290 soldiers without battle stress were examined. The E. E. G. was normal in 121, doubtful in 70, while 99 showed a non-specific abnormality. The results were compared with the "good outcome" and "poor out-come" of the subjects. It is believed that the E.
