The acid-base equilibrium in burns

, : The acid-base equilibrium in burns. Arch Ital Chir 29(3): 275-297

Experiments on 10 rabbits showed after severe burns an acidosis with extremely rapld diminution of the alkaline reserve and an almost equally rapld rise in urinary alkalinity, indicating a dysfunction of the renal eplthelium, which is rendered comparatively impermeable to the superabundant acids. Bianchi believes that the acidosis may be at least an important contributory cause to death after burns.
