The analgesic effect of morphine alone and in combination with dextro-amphetamine

, : The analgesic effect of morphine alone and in combination with dextro-amphetamine. Proc Soc Exp Biol And Med 55(4): 248-250

Expts. on mice are reported which demonstrate that dextro-amphetamine increases the analgesic effects of morphine while counteracting its narcotic actions. The algesimetric method used was that described by Haffner and consisted of applying a measurable mechanical stimulus to the animal's tail. The drug or drug combination was injected subcut. Although this method is not entirely satisfactory the results agreed with those obtained in similar investigations on dogs where a different procedure was used by determining changes in pain threshold.
