The cardiovascular effects of paredrine

, : The cardiovascular effects of paredrine. Amer Heart Jour 24(2): 153-166

Paredrine is considered to be a potent epinephrine-like compound which has a prolonged action and is effective on oral adm. It is the most effective orally active compound in the prevention and treatment of cardiac standstill. It produces a definite and sustained rise in arterial pressure. There are certain differences in the mechanism of the pressor action of paredrine and epineph-rine. Paredrine is effective in the maintenance of satisfactory blood pressure levels during spinal anesthesia. Although more information is essential, the drug appears to be of value in certain types of shock.
