The effect of antibiotics in the treatment of experimental gas gangrene

, : The effect of antibiotics in the treatment of experimental gas gangrene. Zhur Mikrobiol Epidemiol I Immunobiol [transl] 29(1/2): 123-128

In vitro experiments have shown that the causative organisms of gas gangrene are sensitive to chlortetracy-cline but not to grisein. Chlortetracycline limited the gangrenous process, saving the lives of a considerable number of animals, provided treatment was begun not later than 3 to 6 hr. after infection. The presence of latent infection in the organs of animals treated with chlortetracycline suggests that together with antibiotic treatment other measures should be taken to free the body from the organisms.
