The effect of thyroxme on weight, morphological and biochemical changes In the organs of rats irradiated with 400 R a long time earlier

, : The effect of thyroxme on weight, morphological and biochemical changes In the organs of rats irradiated with 400 R a long time earlier. Sb Vedeckych Praci Lek Fak Karlovy Untv Hradci Kralove 9(3): 371-376

In rats irradiated with 400 R at the age of 2 months, changes in the weights of organs, their histological picture and chemical composition of liver tissue before and after 10 days application of thyroxine (30 gamma/100 g body weight/day) were studied The weights of the spleen, heart, kidneys, and adrenals and the content of RNA, DNA, lipids and their oxidation products in the liver changed in irradiated rats similarly as in control animals The weight of the testes of rats irradiated 1 month earlier was markedly decreased as compared with the weight of the testes of non-irradiated animals Histological examination showed a greater occurence of degenerative changes in the testes of irradiated rats and their partial regression after thyroxine treatment Deviations from the normal histological picture were found also in the spleen, thymus, kidneys, lungs and in isolated cases also in the cerebellum.
