The hyperxerophytic depression of the South American continent

, : The hyperxerophytic depression of the South American continent. Advan Frontiers Plant Sci 1: 97-104

Proof of the hyperxerophyticity of the South American continent is given by the fact that the Brazilian region contains 177 endemic species of Cactaceae, the Andean region contains 716 such species, and the Chilean region possesses 26 such species. This, coupled with an earlier demonstration of a similar nature for the Baccharidinae (Compositae), verifies the above thesis, which earlier had been based upon a rainfall-temperature study.
