The incidence of acute leukemia in children

, : The incidence of acute leukemia in children. Jour Amer Med Assoc 119(7): 547-550

In an analysis of 1500 cases of acute leukemia in children it was found that 59.3% were [male][male]._ Although in the 1st yr. there were more [female][female] than [male][male], incidence in [male][male] in-creased very sharply at 6 yrs. Highest incidence was at 3-6 yrs.; then a rapid decline in the next three yrs. was noted with a gradual fall through the rest of childhood. Since the age incidence curve of acute leukemia is like that of acute infections in children, and acute infections frequently precede acute leukemia development, it is concluded that acute infection is a factor in the production and causation of acute leukemia.
