The infection of birds with the virus of equine encephalomyelitis

, : The infection of birds with the virus of equine encephalomyelitis. Amer Jour Hyg Sect B 33(2): 63-68

The virus of equine encephalomyelitis recovered from pheasants dying in Connecticut conformed in its various characteristics with an eastern equine strain without evidence of any peculiarities attributable to its avian origin. A fatal paralysis developed in several adult pheasants after intramusc. injn. Very young chicks died within 48 hrs. after subcut. injn.; young hens remained free of symptoms even after initra-cerebral inoculation but their serum developed protective properties.
