The influence of some derivatives of aliphatic trimethyl-betaines upon the acetylchollne-esterase as well as the hydrolysis of betaine-esters

, : The influence of some derivatives of aliphatic trimethyl-betaines upon the acetylchollne-esterase as well as the hydrolysis of betaine-esters. Acta Biol Et Med Germ 11(3): 353-362

The inhibitory constants KI of some esters, of amides and of nitriles of different aliphatic trimethyl-betaines for the acetylcholine-esterase were determined. The highest affinity for the enzyme was recorded with the nitriles, the lowest one with the amides. Here, the derivatives of homo-betaine have the strongest inhibitory effect. The introduction of an OH-group into the molecule of [gamma]-butyrobetaine effects that the affinity of the derivatives of the one optical form of the arising carnitine increased, while that of the other optical form is decreased. Acetylation intensifies this difference. The spontaneous hydrolysis of the betaine-esters is lessened along with the increasing chain-length of the betaines and of the alcohols.
