The influence of sulfamides on transpiration of the leaf

, : The influence of sulfamides on transpiration of the leaf. Arch Sci Biol 32(1): 5-9

The effect on transpiration of immersion of branches of Myoporum serratum in 0.1%, 0.02%, and 0.05% solns. of the sulf amides, microtan-thiazole I.C.I, and thiazine 24 Lepetit, was studied after removing such treated branches and placing them along with control branches in plain water, some being kept in darkness and some in diffuse light. Transpiration was measured as loss of wt. undergone by the leaves of a single branch, after 2-5 hrs. exposure to light or to darkness, and was calculated as unit wt. loss per sq. dm. of leaf surface. Transpiration was less in the sulfamide-treated plants than in the controls, the stomata of the former being practically completely closed while those in the controls were opened wide.
