These two volumes constitute a thorough review of the pharmacological literature on opium and its derivatives. As regards morphine the review is especially complete and critical. The bibliography, arranged chronologically, contains 9174 items plus an addendum. The indices cover not only the text but also the subject matter of the original papers. Only a few of the general deductions may be listed here. Morphine causes a mixture or succession of depression and excitation.
