The vegetation of the Alps

, : The vegetation of the Alps. Naturwiss 14(20): 680-685

From the viewpoint of a geographer, examples of the various types of alpine plant associations are cited and their development accounted for. The chief object of the study is "to recognize a grouping of types growing on mountain slopes and to show that these correspond with the changes involved in the evolution of the land forms." The evolution of the vegetational mantle is tied up with the development of the alpine structure in an intimate fashion. Without an understanding of the laws of existence and of transformation of the mountain formations there can be no satisfactory comprehension of the plant covering of .the highland regions.
