Thorns in the skin and joints of the monkey

, : Thorns in the skin and joints of the monkey. Archives of Pathology 84(5): 536-538

Thorns were found in the skin, subcutaneous tissues, muscles and joints of Cebus albifrons monkeys used in the laboratory. Most thorns were probably derived from the trunk of the palm Bactris minor in the monkey's native habitat of Colombia. Most thorns pro-duced little reaction, except those in the synovium which were surrounded by a granulomatous infiltrate. This condition is considered a counterpart to the recently described human blackthorn inflammation and its relevance as a disease of experimental animals is pointed out.
