Treatment of cough in tuberculosis with dextromethorphan hydrobromide

, : Treatment of cough in tuberculosis with dextromethorphan hydrobromide. Schweiz Zietschr Tuberk 12(1): 80-88

Patients (23) with pulmonary tuberculosis and bouts of very refractory cough were treated with Romilar. The drug produced marked decrease in coughing and facilitated expectoration. Tests on respiratory function carried out before and after treatment demonstrated improvement: the fractionated vital capacity, maximum ventilation, air velocity index and O2 extraction index increased significantly in a large percentage of the cases treated. In no cases have the authors observed signs of habituation, intoxication or euphoria.
