Treatment of dracontiasis with niridazole

, : Treatment of dracontiasis with niridazole. Lancet 2(7506): 73-75

Niridazole ("Ambilhar', Ciba) was efficacious in the treatment of patients infected with adult guinea-worms. The patients consistently reported a rapid relief of pain, tenderness, and swelling; the worms were extracted more easily; and there was less tendency for fresh worms to emerge. Only minor side-effects were encountered, and the drug was well tolerated by most of the 70 patients in this series.
