Use of combined features of response for determining absolute threshold

, : Use of combined features of response for determining absolute threshold. Vop Psikhol 12(5): 102-113

More effective methods of determining threshold, especially through involuntary reactions, must be based upon the simultaneous use of all information about the stimulus intensity, which is contained in the re-sponse, and the application of more precise methods of statistical analy-sis. A method of combined estimates according to which the threshold is determined simultaneously by 2 parameters of the reaction, viz. the frequency of occurrence and the magnitude of latency, together with the application of successive hypothesis testing of physiological intensity of the stimulus presented is suggested. For determining the threshold by this method, all stimuli presented were divided into classes in terms of the stimulus intensity; subjects' responses were also grouped in terms of the magnitude of latency. The successive hypotheses testing was based on Beyes' formula.
