Where calomel is still the best

, : Where calomel is still the best. Grower [London] 37(14): 800-801

Brassica crops in England are heavily attacked by cabbage root maggots. The standard treatment is 4% calomel dust, 40 lb./acre, applied to the soil around the plants before or very soon after egg-laying begins. Calomel kills the eggs. One application at the correct time will protect the crop. BHC dust 3.5%, 20 lb./acre, may be substituted for calomel. It kills the young larvae, not the eggs.
