The effect of anemia on porphyrin synthesis in mouse liver

, : The effect of anemia on porphyrin synthesis in mouse liver. Biochemical Medicine 5(5): 0-429

The synthesis of porphyrins from ALA by liver homogenates from congenitally anemic () mice and from wild-type (+/+) mice with phenylhydrazine-induced anemia is enhanced. Hepatic ALA synthetase activity in and +/+ mice is the same. The bearing of these findings on the regulation of heme synthesis is discussed.
