After extensive review by the members of the Commission, this 3rd edition provides the details of subsequently adopted amendments. The intention of these amendments is to eliminate the ambiguities which arose from the Code published in the 2nd edition. Written in both French and English, the text begins by providing the definition and scope of the zoological nomenclature. The text proceeds to provide the number of words in the scientific names of animals, publication criteria, criteria availability, date of publication, and name validity. Also included are name treatment and formulation, family-group taxa names, genus-group taxa and names, and species-group taxa and names. Authorship, homonymy, nomenclature type concept, and information on the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature are also considered topics. Appendixes, a glossary, an index of scientific names, and indexes in both French and English are provided.
