A case of silicosis with dis-seminatedegg shell shaped calcifications

, : A case of silicosis with dis-seminatedegg shell shaped calcifications. Nichidai Igaku Zasshi 25(7): 7993302

The patient was a 51 year old man, who had engaged in stone work for 25 years. His chief complaints were cough and dyspnea after work. His chest X-ray film showed typical egg shell shaped calcifications, disseminated on both pulmonaryhihis symmetrically. Our laboratory findings indicated slight disturbance of pulmonary function, but no other abnormalities. Tuberculous bacillus were not found in his expectorations of pulmonary tuberculosis was strongly suspected from his chest X-ray findings. Many authors agree on peculiarity of this egg shell shaped calcification as silicosis. It has been considered as "atypical silicosis", that if there was occupational history of exposure to pathogenic dusts, egg shell shaped calcification would constitute strong presumptive evidence of silicosis.
