A patho-physiological mechanism of immunity following dysentery intoxication in rabbits

, : A patho-physiological mechanism of immunity following dysentery intoxication in rabbits. Arkh Patol 19(11): 33-38

Rabbits immunized with a heated vaccine of the Flexner type S, strain 1 or 338, were challenged with a lethal dose of complete antigen. The intoxication was mild and the blood circulation rate somewhat lowered, indicating an arteriolar spasm in the lungs. No intoxication symptoms were present following the administration of a small dose of complete antigen. When the superior cervical sympathetic ganglia were removed the immunity of the rabbits disappeared and they could not withstand the antigen doses to which intact animals were resistant.
