A study of coagulase positive staphylococci in a representative student group

, : A study of coagulase positive staphylococci in a representative student group. Amer Jour Med Technol 28(1): 41-44

The prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus isolations among the representative student group was found to be 51.7% for all strains of staphylococci and 25.9% for coagulase positive staphylococci. There was a difference noted in the prevalence rate for males and females, 30.1% and 18.6% respectively. Using the strains isolated, it was indicated that Sheep Blood Agar was of limited value in identifying coagulase positive staphylococci. Tellurite Glycine Agar, on the other hand, was found to be very effective. The results of the project showed that Colbeck EY Agar is a very good differential medium for the identification of coagulase positive strains of S. aureus.
