A sustained pressor response to hypothalamic stimulation in the rat

, : A sustained pressor response to hypothalamic stimulation in the rat. Acta Endocrinologica 27(1): 89-98

Elevations of systemic arterial blood pressure produced by electrical stimulation of posterior hypothalamic areas in rats fall into 2 categories: an initial pressor effect of short latency and duration; and, a secondary sustained pressor response of long duration in initially hypotensive animals. The sustained pressor response persists after bilateral adrenalectomy, vagotomy, or spinal cord transection and is unaffected by the action of dibenzyline or hexamethonium. The sustained pressor response can be abolished by lesions in the median eminence of the tube cinereum, suggesting hormonal mediation.
