Abnormal seedlings in the onion

, : Abnormal seedlings in the onion. Gartenbauwiss 18(1): 98-100

The author describes anomalies found in a winter onion var. the plants seem to have only a single leaf, since the sheath has no aperture, and emergence of the 2d and subsequent leaves is therefore impossible. These plants form small subterranean bulbs at a time when normal plants form no bulbs. The inner leaves curve badly and finally the plants die in consequence of these growth anomalies. Plants were found which are transitional in form between the normal and the unifoliate plants.
