Synthetic nitrogenous substances which are given either as protein supplements in feeds or as partial protein substitutes are better utilized when mixed with acid feeds. Nitrogenous substances which form when ammonia water and ammonium bicarbonate are added to the acid feed supplement the feed proteins when there is a protein deficiency in the ration. The daily increase in the weight of the animals is raised (10-15% with 150-170 g/day). The use of ammonia water at 0.25 I/day for 166 days and ammonium bicarbonate up to 150-170 g/day when given with corn silage or with acid pulp does not negatively affect production output, meat quality, or the health of the animals.
